Multiple Chapters?

Post by Xadro »

Well what i liked best in the old version of FanFiction Downloader was that you could download the whole story in chapters with an index page and all and not in one big document, which gets rather annoying if you download a story with 300K words. So it would be great if that feature returned.

Cheers,

And, that's annoying how? I once downloaded a Harry Potter Fanfiction with over 1,500,000 words, alongside a Bauldur's gate fanfiction of 800,000+ words

It's the same thing I say. Just a file of a couple megs instead of a bunch of small ones. Easier to read in my fine opinion.

But yesh, I agree about at least adding the functionality. I mean, 4.0.X had it. I'm all about at least being able to do things.

If you use one of the dedicated ebook formats, it automatically generates a table of contents. At the very least, this is true of EPUB files. This is probably true for the other ebook filetypes, but don't quote me on it. In addition, I think calibre remembers where you are if you're reading a file. I've posted some fanfiction specific tutorials for using calibre on this board.

Hi,

that's not an easy request since the program wasn't build to create multiple files per story. And even if it'd be able to, converting it into something else than html will put it all in one file again.
I know that it was a feature of the old 4.x but not many people were using this feature.

Well i used it lol, only HTML though so i can backup stories from FF.net because authors sometimes get hissy fits and decide to delete their stories.

Hello. I'd just like to say that this is one of the reasons I've been regularly continuing to use 4.0.5. If there is any way to make this possible again in the future, I would certainly very much appreciate having the option.

Thank you.

Indeed i have been using 4.0.6 as well, but now its broken because of FF.net new review button, it now adds a whole bunch of javascript as well. And i'm still hoping on getting a multi chapter support for the new FanfictionDownloader

Are we talking about this feature for html downloads only ?

Or will the next person request the same thing for rtf, txt, pdf files?

If it's html only it'd looke like this:

StandardOutPutFolder
|
|---Authornama
| |---Storyname
| | |--index.html
| | |--ch1.html
| | |--ch2.html

I'm only using html because pretty much any device i have can read it.

And yeah an Index file and each chapter a file of its own.

Dunno about the next person though, but for me its always been HTML lol

If you take the epub file the program spits out and rename it so that the file extension is "zip" instead of "epub", you can open it like a regular zip file (on most computers, just like a file). All of the chapters should be inside, saved as individual html files. You can open them individually, or extract and save them, or whatever.
