Unable to download from "External Mirror"

Attempting to download the Mac or Windows versions from the external mirror returns an error page that says "Not available: Our service is currently unavailable in your country. Sorry about that." Could you upload it to an alternative host that doesn't block those of us in the United States?

Thanks for your help on this and thank you for the work put into this program.

Hi yuri,

that's all caused by the shutdown of megaupload, all the filehosters are now afraid.
I've removed the mirror links, try to download the files from my website now.

The number of downloads is limited to 10 per day to protect myself (and my bank account).
Some 'funny' guy is still trying to download the files up to 26,000 times per day...

You should upload it to: http://www.multiupload.com

It will automatically upload your software to multiple file-lockers that way you can save bandwidth

I won't use Mirrors anymore, too much trouble.

I'll just delete the downloads for the rest of the month if the traffic limit is reached.
(Today we've reached 144GB, 200GB is the limit)

I agree, the downloads section of the site sucks majorly. It's NOT download manager friendly.

You might want to offer the files as web-seeded BitTorrent files as well.

The PHP thing is bad, too. Offer DIRECT links to the files like

Code: Select all

That's the download statistik: (Click on it to see the whole picture)

If you count only the 10 "most funny download ips" then you'd get 168,943 downloads within ~15 days. Each of these downloads uses the 50MB file. That alone would be a downloaded volume of 8249GB. Every GB more than the included traffic costs me 0,10€. So, who want's to pay 800-1000€ per month?

With so many "funny" people out there I won't be offering a direct download anymore. Feel free to rent me a server with unlimited traffic that I can use as a mirror.
These download attacks started ~6 month ago and it down't look like it'll be ending soon.

What about adding Google ReCaptchas to the download page to stop the spam downloads?

Hi,

that would still require the php page for downloading.

And personally I hate these captcha things, they are a pain.

If you don't like the downloadmanager.php then use the mirror link to rapidshare.

While they are annoying, they would at least stop the bots.
And while Rapidshare used to be perfect for sharing files, they too are now a pain, limiting the downloadspeed of files bigger than 30MB to 30kb/s, unless the uploader decides to share personal information with them.
But I'm quite happy with the .php thingy, works fine for me.
